SUKKUR: The hearing of the case related to giving the non custom paid vehicle to the owner was held in the Supreme Court under the chairmanship of Justice Faiz Isa. According to the court order, DG Customs Intelligence Faiz Ahmed appeared in the Supreme Court.
Justice Qazi Faiz Isa asked DG Customs whether you are above the law. Why are you defying court orders?
Justice Qazi Faiz Isa remarked that three courts ordered that the vehicle should be handed over to the owner. For five years, the customs have seized the citizen’s vehicle and locked it.
DG Customs said that this is a very unique case of vehicle delivery, on which Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar asked what is unique about vehicle delivery. The collector is writing that the owner has paid all the taxes and duties.
Justice Qazi Faiz Isa asked what the value of this car of 97 model will be? On which the DG Customs said that the value of the seized vehicle would be 20 to 25 lakh rupees.
Justice Faiz Isa said that more money and time was spent on cases than the value of the vehicle, non-custom paid vehicles should not come to Pakistan, why don’t you make the border safe? People and goods are coming and going without stopping, are the customs people having fun?
Justice Faiz Isa questioned that why the smuggle of non custom paid vehicles were not being stopped with seizing the borders.
Justice Faiz Isa remarked that movement of people and equipment were continuing without any hindrance while the customs’ officials were busy in entertainments.
The Supreme Court rejected the request of Pakistan Customs to withdraw the case and imposed a fine of 50 thousand rupees on the customs for filing an unnecessary case in the High Court and Supreme Court.
