SUKKUR : The deteriorating law and order situation in Sukkur has disturbed the private life and sleep of the common men and people are very worried about the increasing lawlessness in district. It seems that there is no such thing as government writ in Sukkur.
Citizens are constantly in a state of fear and insecurity. Most people have either been victims of street crimes themselves or know someone who has recently been. Visiting a crowded market in broad daylight is as unsafe as traveling on a deserted road at night. Lack of security is affecting the overall well-being of the society.
Last day the Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Ghulam Shabir sheikh, was abducted by unknown persons from near the Sukkur bus terminal in a broad daylight.
According to the police, Ghulam Shabir Sheikh was returning to his home to Larkana from his duty when the accused in a car stopped his car on the Ring Road near the Sukkur bus terminal and took away the Assistant Commissioner, his stenographer and the guard.
Police sources said that after going some distance, the armed accused left the stenographer on guard who reached the police station and informed the police.
The incidents of street crimes and target killings are also increasing in the district as two days before SUP activist Haseeb Junejo was brutally murdered. Today, the people of Sukkur consider themselves insecure and demand the high ups to take stern action against such grave negligence.
According to an estimate, the number of criminals in the district is around 3000 to 4000. “If even 500 of them commit crimes and we register them, it becomes a large number of crimes, but the registered crime is less than ten percent.”
It should be remembered that the abducted persons from the neighboring areas of Sukkur Khairpur and Shikarpur are sent to the slums of Shikarpur from where these bandits collect ransom from the families of the hostages.
The police are doing nothing but comfort and hollow narrative, and despite the security established in every corner of the city, there is no decrease in robbery activities, motorcycle theft , abduction, and target killing which can be estimated from the poor performance of the Sukkur Police.
