SUKKUR: Sukkur residents are raising their voices against the city’s worsening sanitation situation, characterized by overflowing garbage dumps and streets lined with piles of refuse. This neglect by the Sukkur Municipal Corporation is making life difficult for citizens and raising concerns about hygiene and public health.
Heaps of garbage have become a prominent feature of Sukkur, particularly in commercial and business centers. The stench emanating from these dumps is not just unpleasant; it also poses a significant threat of disease outbreaks. Residents, despite repeated complaints, feel ignored by the administration and sanitation departments.
The lack of action has prompted residents to demand immediate intervention from higher authorities. This includes the Secretary of Local Government, Provincial Minister Baldyar, Commissioner Sukkur, Mayor Sukkur, and the Municipal Commissioner. Their appeal, echoing the frustration of many, calls for the restoration of basic municipal services and an efficient sanitation system.
The ongoing garbage crisis requires attention on several fronts. Firstly, accountability must be established for the current failings of the Sukkur Municipal Corporation. Effective waste management strategies need to be implemented, addressing both collection and disposal. Additionally, public awareness campaigns are crucial to encourage responsible waste disposal habits and reduce overall waste generation.
Addressing this problem demands a multi-pronged approach. Holding institutions accountable, implementing efficient waste management systems, and fostering community engagement are crucial steps towards a cleaner and healthier Sukkur. Only then can residents breathe easier and live with the basic level of hygiene they deserve.
