Shah Abdul Latif University facing disruption over ongoing protests

SUKKUR: Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) has been grappling with ongoing protests and a subsequent lockdown for five days, causing significant disruption to its operations. The university administration, through its spokesperson, expressed deep concern about the impact of this situation on the institution and called for a swift resolution.
The crux of the issue seems to be conflicting claims and accusations. The protesters, comprising some officers and employees, allege unaddressed grievances and demand their resolution. Meanwhile, the administration attributes the protests to a handful of individuals motivated by personal interests and potentially covering up their own misconduct.
Adding to the tension is the circulation of a purported video of the Vice-Chancellor, which the university claims is fabricated and part of a “conspiracy” to defame the institution. This further complicates the situation and fuels mistrust between parties.
While upholding the right to peaceful protest, the university administration emphasizes the detrimental impact of the ongoing disruption on both academic activities and overall campus life. They urge the protesters to engage in constructive dialogue through established channels rather than resorting to disruptive tactics.
The press release acknowledges the legitimacy of some concerns raised by the protesters and assures them that their issues will be addressed through proper channels. A committee comprising the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Deans, and representatives from various faculty and staff positions has been constituted to facilitate dialogue and find solutions.
To address the issue of fabricated information, the university authorities call on everyone involved to refrain from spreading misinformation and maintain a level of responsible communication. They also stress their commitment to upholding the principle of transparency and due process in addressing any legitimate concerns.
Moving forward, it’s crucial for all parties involved to prioritize the welfare of the university and its students. Engaging in respectful dialogue, fact-checking information, and prioritizing established channels for grievance redressal are key steps towards fostering a more positive and productive environment at SALU.
