Chief Justice Islamabad High Court takes notice of Imran Riaz Khan arrest

ISLAMABAD : The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court fixed the contempt of court petition filed against the arrest of Imran Riaz Khan for hearing at 10 am and sought reply from IG Islamabad.
According to Indus News.One, Imran Riaz Khan’s lawyers filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court last night against the arrest and contempt of court.
The journalist’s lawyers and Asad Khan, assistant registrar in charge of the diary branch of the high court, got in touch, after which the assistant registrar and staff reached the court.
Imran Riaz Khan’s lawyer said that the arrest was made despite the High Court’s restraining order. This is a clear violation of court orders.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah fixed the petition against the arrest for hearing in the morning and issued orders to summon the competent officer from IG Islamabad to the court at 10 am.
The Chief Justice directed the IG Islamabad to appear and explain why the court order was violated. Asad Khan, Assistant Registrar, Islamabad High Court, while marking the petition, said that further hearing would be held at 10 am.
Earlier, information was received from High Court sources that Imran Riaz Khan’s lawyers had contacted Asad Khan, the Assistant Registrar in charge of the High Court Diary Branch, and informed him about the arrest and violation of court orders.
Asad Khan, assistant registrar in charge of the diary branch of the high court, left for the high court and the staff has also been ordered to arrive immediately. Where he received a request from Imran Riaz’s lawyers and put a number on it for hearing.
Imran Khan’s lawyers made IG Islamabad, IG Punjab and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad a party in the petition and took the position that Imran Riaz was arrested despite clear orders of the High Court. Contempt of court proceedings were initiated against the individuals.
The petition states that the Islamabad High Court had stopped the arrest without the permission of the court.
