By our correspondent
ISLAMABAD: Punjab Law Minister Malik Ahmad Khan confirmed that Imran Riaz Khan was arrested from Attock District, Rawalpindi Division. Cases have been registered against him in Punjab, so he was arrested from within the province.
“The impression that the arrest came from Islamabad is wrong,” he said.
It may be recalled that journalist Imran Riaz had filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court to avoid arrest, on which the court directed the concerned authorities not to arrest him and directed the journalist to co-operate in the investigation.
On the other hand, Imran Riaz Khan’s lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq also confirmed the arrest and said that when the arrest took place.
“There were 17 cases registered against Imran Riaz Khan across Punjab. When we filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, the court had directed the concerned agencies across the country not to arrest him,” Ashfaq said.
He said that we had also filed a petition in the Lahore High Court on which the esteemed judge had directed the IG Punjab to provide a copy of the cases and not to arrest him. Ali Ashfaq announced that we will file a petition in the Islamabad High Court against this arrest and hoped that the esteemed judges would take strict action against the violators of the court orders and release Imran Riaz and take action against the violators.
