SCA leadership praises Govt proposal to fix wheat price at Rs 4000

By our correspondent
HYDERABAD: Sind Agriculture Council has welcomed the proposal of Rs 4,000 per maund by the Sindh Government for the year 2022-23. They demanded financial support in the style of Watan card of 2011, including draining water from lands to the sea, providing free or half-price subsidized fertilizers and seeds, giving interest-free loans to the settlers.
In this regard, after the meeting held by the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, Central President of the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture Syed Miran Muhammad Shah and General Secretary Zahid Bhargari issued a joint press statement from the headquarters of the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture in Hyderabad. He stated that as a challenge, 80% of the land in Sindh currently has a view of the sea. It is the biggest task for the Sindh government to appoint competent officials from other departments on deputation to work day and night in the irrigation and drainage departments. Restore the natural corridor and drain the water from the fields on a war footing basis and prepare the land for the Rabi crop.
They said that after October 15, wheat cultivation season will start in Sindh. There is only one month left in the wheat cultivation, during that time the land clearing and preparation is a big challenge for the government and the farmers. It will be difficult to produce one million metric tons of wheat. Sindh’s annual wheat production is 42 million metric tons. If this target is not achieved, there will be a crisis of food and security in the province. It will reach up to Rs 200 per 1 kg flour if government didn’t take precautionary measures.
Therefore, the farmers do not need any assistance in terms of ration, they are only given the fields on an emergency basis so that they can work on their next wheat crop. The Agriculture Council of Sindh repeated the old demand and said that due to the destruction of rains and floods, there has been a loss of 700 billion rupees to the agriculture and livestock of Sindh. The officials of the irrigation and drainage department are responsible for this. So that such destruction cannot happen again, the destruction of Sindh has not been caused by rain but as a result of the corruption and incompetence of the governors, due to which Sindh has been left behind in the field of development for 10 years.
They have demanded Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to immediately mobilize the irrigation and drainage officials and give a target to all the irrigation officials to vacate the fields on an ad hoc basis and for this it seems to be working practically. The Agriculture Council of Sindh has expressed serious concern over the still-running houses and demanded that they be brought under immediate control and duties should be assigned to competent officials from each department to remove the water.
