SUKKUR: The deteriorating law and order situation in Sukkur district, serious incidents like car lifting , murder increasing incidents of street crimes, and motor bike snatching are a question mark on the performance of the Sukkur police. Across Sind, the police’s grip on criminal elements seems to be weak, which could be a major reason that the police, government ministers and members of the national and provincial assemblies seem to be more busy with protocols.
In Sukkur region, every month hundreds of people are deprived of their motorcycles, causing a total loss of crores of rupees to the people. The provincial government, IG and Additional IG Sindh are kept ignorant about such incidents. In most districts of Sindh, especially in rural and suburban areas, FIRs are not registered for these incidents.
In case of theft or snatching of a motorcycle, instead of filing an FIR, only NC, which is a rough report, is filed to cover up these crimes because if an FIR is filed. If so, it will become part of the report to be sent to IG Sindh. This is the reason why police station incharges do not register FIRs in most of these incidents. However, all these situations are known to the district police officers. On the other hand, the statement of the police officers is also true to some extent that the people involved in these incidents of street crime do not file FIR themselves
IG Sind, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Memon, who is considered as one of the best officers of Pakistan Police Service, has given instructions to all the police officers of Sind to prevent all big and small crimes and street robberies. Record the events of the so that the situation in terms of law and order and crime can be fully revealed. This is a good move by them, a similar system should be in place in all districts so that the government and IG Sindh are aware of the complete situation and can formulate policies accordingly.
In the last two to three years, there has been a continuous increase in crime incidents. There are hundreds of incidents of snatching gold ornaments, purses, mobile phones from people especially women in bazaars, markets and highways which are not reported while most incidents of street crime happen on Sindh on a daily basis. Incidents of motorcycle theft and robbery at gunpoint are also common
On the other hand, Sukkur police claim that the police are continuing their efforts to establish peace and order in the city and district, but on the other hand, various organizations of city and political and social parties are continuously protesting against the unrest. They say that the police are not fully prepared to perform their duties, due to which the criminals are getting a free pass.
The civil society is right to think that what is the obstacle in taking action against them? Incidents of motorcycle theft and snatching are increasing in all the districts of Sindh. Motorcycles parked in houses, shops, shopping malls, hospitals or different places are stolen by unknown thieves or the accused snatch the motorcycle from the motorcycle rider by force of arms and shoot at him if he resists. They do not hesitate to kill.
