SUKKUR: A protest rally was held in Karachi against the non-arrest of the killers of Sukkur-based journalist Jan Muhammad Mahr by journalistic organizations and a dharna was held in front of the Chief Minister’s House.
A joint committee consisting of leaders of PFUJ, Karachi Union of Journalists and Karachi Press Club took out a rally from the Press Club which reached near the Chief Minister’s House through Awan Sadar Road and Ziauddin Ahmed Road. The participants staged a dharna at the PIDC signal.
During this, the participants kept shouting slogans. Journalist leader Afzal Butt, Arshad Ansari, Mazhar Abbas, Lala Asad, lawyer leader Naeem Qureshi and others addressed the participants.
The speakers said that the Sindh government could not arrest the killers of journalist Jan Muhammad Maher despite the passage of several months.
They said that our demand is that the murderers of journalist Jan Muhammad Maher should be arrested and punished immediately.
The PFUJ leaders would announce their future course of action at the end of the rally. The action committee will meet immediately after the rally at the KPC and consult with other PFUJ affiliated bodies about the next action plan.
The PFUJ’s Federal Executive Committee (FEC) in its meeting held at Abbottabad from November 3 to 5 had decided to stage a countrywide protest against the murder of Jan Mohammad Mehr. The FEC also constituted the action committee in Sindh under the chairmanship of PFUJ former secretary general, Mazhar Abbas.
