SUKKUR: Sukkur city is grappling with a surge in crime, leaving residents feeling unsafe and questioning the effectiveness of the local police force. Recent incidents of looting, robbery, motorcycle snatching, and theft, including a brazen daylight home invasion in the Gadani Phatak area, have sparked outrage and concern among civic and social circles.
Despite the “loud claims” by SSP Sukkur Zabir Nazir Ahmed Sheikh regarding establishing law and order, reality paints a different picture. Residents feel exposed and vulnerable as unknown thieves operate with impunity, seemingly unfazed by police presence. The theft of household goods and even gas meters adds to the sense of urban insecurity that pervades the city.
The recent string of incidents, culminating in the cloth market burglary, has pushed public frustration to a boiling point. Business owners and citizens alike are voicing their discontent with the perceived negligence of the police. The failure to curb criminal activity not only creates a climate of fear but also hampers economic activity and overall quality of life.
In response to the escalating situation, a wave of demands has swept through the community. Representatives of the business community and civil society are calling for swift and effective action from the higher authorities. They urge the police to take concrete steps to restore peace and security in Sukkur, implementing measures that demonstrably address the problem and alleviate the anxiety gripping the city.
The Sukkur police now face a crucial test. They must respond to the public’s outcry with tangible solutions and proactive policing strategies. Failure to regain control of the situation will only erode public trust and further exacerbate the crime problem. The onus is on the authorities to take immediate and decisive action to restore a sense of safety and security for the residents of Sukkur.
