Water shortage at Sindh barrages on rise

SUKKUR: Water shortage at barrages in Sindh continues to rise Water level at Guddu Barrage and Sukkur Barrage has dropped by more than 3,000 cusecs in last 24 hours.
Canal system of barrages as well as drinking supply of Sukkur City has been affected severely which is which also has affected farmers.
According to incharge control room Sukkur barrage, Abdul Aziz Soomro, water shortage increasing again due to the absence of rains in upper areas and low temperature in Skardu.
In the last 73 hours, the water level at Guddu Barrage has dropped by 9,000 and at Sukkur Barrage by more than 3,000 further reduction is expected. Two canals of Guddu and Sukkur Barrage, Rice and Begari, still closed.
Water is also being supplied in less than 50% in other canals. Water supply in Kotri Barrage and Ker Thar Canal has also been reduced. The canal system is also being affected due to water shortage. He said that the Rice Canal coming out of Sukkur Barrage would be opened for drinking water on June 1 tomorrow.
