SUKKUR: Trafficking of drugs like gutka, pan Parag, and other narcotic substances have reached its peak in the limits of various police stations of Sukkur and Rohri city. People are eating open gutka and one-to-one gutka in various parts of the district. Gutka mafia are playing with people’s lives for the sake of wealth and making the future of the new generation of our country dark.
Gutka mafia is playing with human lives in various areas like Bachal shah, Nawan Goth, old Sukkur, Nusrat colony, for the sake of a few coins by making people suffer from various diseases.
According to the law approved by te Sindh Assembly, those involved in the sale and use of gutka can be punished with three years of imprisonment and a fine of more than two lakh rupees.
Police officials who are responsible for keeping Sukkur city free from drugs and harmful substances themselves turned out to be addicted to these substances. More than 40 percent of Sukkur police officials are addicted to Cigarettes Gutka, Mawa, Charis and other drugs.
According to the details, on the order of the Sindh High Court, the sale of Gutka, Mawa and other harmful substances has been completely banned in the province and the police department has been assigned the responsibility to ensure the implementation of this order. It is that the majority of police department personnel are used to using these items themselves۔ Due to which they refrain from taking action against Gutka Mawa mafia. Sources said that 40% of police officials patrolling police stations and mobile phones are addicted to the use of these items and they cannot even imagine their duty without it.
But after the passing of this law, there was a crackdown at the official level for some time and then the gutke trade started again with new vigor and vigor. Now the sellers and buyers of gutka have devised a new ‘mechanism’ to evade the law.
Mohammad Akbar (pseudonym), a betel nut seller in Nawan Goth Sukkur area, told Indus News.one that a few months ago, the sale of gutka had become very strict and for some time, the sale of gutka had to be almost stopped, but then some relaxation took place.
Akbar said that he does not sell gutka to any stranger, only to those who are his old customers. If an unknown passer-by comes, they deny that there is no Gutka. The second is that there is a fixed time to sell gutka to certain customers, they know how many customers there are so they keep the goods ready according to them and usually in the evening they take more gutka. It is not sold throughout the day.
Social leader and educationist Rasheed Arain has said that Gutka and Mawa are being sold all over Sindh including Sukkur and it is not possible that the police does not know where Gutka and Mawa are being sold. And in the preparation of Mawa, instead of betel nuts, palm kernels are used by burning them in acid. Those who eat Gutka and Mawa are getting dangerous diseases۔
According to sources, it has been revealed that the corrupt officers of Sukkur police were allegedly taking 10,000 to 30,000 from pan shops and gutka vendors. Chief Minister IG Sindh and Deputy Commissioner Sukkur should be taken action immediately against the drug dealers or sellers and corrupt police officials.
Reportedly the chalia and gutka seized in police raids are later sold by themselves.
It is claimed that about one ton of gutka is seized from the market every month. However, on the other hand, many policemen themselves are addicted to gutka.
